Derik Wingo is a veteran director, writer, producer and executive producer with twenty-five years of comprehensive experience working in various facets of film, TV and commercials, as well as reality, docudrama and game shows.

 

He began his career in 1995 working in Special Effects with several of the most prestigious artists and studios in the business including Academy Award and Emmy Award winners: Rick Baker, Greg Nicotero & KNB FX, George Lucas’s Industrial Light & Magic, Masters FX and others. 

 

Wingo went on to produce the relationship drama, RUNNING SPRINGS, helping to promote the successful release of the film. The following year he wrote, produced and directed the comedy-drama, THE WAITERS, which reached worldwide distribution and was celebrated on the film festival circuit (Award Winner: New York International Independent Film Festival). Wingo recently executive produced the WWII epic, WARSAW 44 and co-wrote, produced and directed the anticipated thriller, CHRONOLOGY (William Baldwin and Danny Trejo). Additionally, Wingo was the 1st Assistant Director, on the new CASH CAB: CELEBRITY EDITION (EP, David Steinberg). 

 

Also an accomplished writer, Derik Wingo has completed development and rewrites on two feature film screenplays for a major studio. He has been commissioned to rewrite numerous screenplays in addition to a number of original screenplays, both feature and episodic. He has also written and directed works for stage that have run in Los Angeles and New York City. Most notably in 2016 directing the original play JERICHO, which received acclaim at NYC’s Fringe Festival. 

 

At present, Wingo nears completion of his dramatic and socially relevant short film, MILK, SUGAR, LEMON, which is scheduled for a fall '19 release. 

Derik Wingo is a seasoned actor of stage and screen with a diverse background in drama and comedy. After graduating in Fine Arts from San Diego State University, he moved to Los Angeles to begin his career. He started booking parts in various theater, film and TV productions. Between gigs, Wingo continued his study with respected instructor, Richard Delancy, then at The Beverly Hills Playhouse, and eventually as a member of the prestigious West Coast Ensemble.  

 

He performed with the improv/sketch troop, The Berubians and in numerous original plays at The Next Stage Theater, one of L.A.’s well known independent theaters off the Sunset Strip. He’d go on to play Paul Bratter in BAREFOOT IN THE PARK for the Little Fish Theatre Company, receiving very favorable reviews for his performance. Wingo also worked under Emmy Award winning director, Shelley Jensen in his celebrated rendition of ROMEO AND JULIET for the Backlight Theatre Company

 

Wingo played a supporting role in the Telly Award Winning WWII docudrama, SHOT FROM THE SKY for History Channel. He eventually got noticed by casting at JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE, appearing in numerous comedic sketches for the Emmy Award winning late-night show. While on a work trip to New York City to shoot a DENNY’S commercial, Wingo instantly fell in love with the city and eventually moved to NYC in 2008 to continue his career. 

 

Recently, Wingo played lead roles in the feature films, CHRONOLOGY (William Baldwin, Danny Trejo) and in COFFIN & COFFIN 2 (Kevin Sorbo, Bruce Davison). He took home a Best Actor Award from the New York International Independent Film Festival for his lead role in the indie-hit, THE WAITERS and can be seen in the new comedy web series, DIVORCE THERAPY. 

 

Wingo continues to stay active on stage having completed the off-off Broadway original plays, CRACKED OPEN & THE ACCIDENTAL CAREGIVER and performs stand-up & sketch in NYC. Wingo also has commercial/print campaigns currently running for CRAFTSMAN and ROCKPORT SHOES and has also appeared on THE TODAY SHOW.
